Position Summary

Design, develop, secure, administer and support college-wide computer application systems as needed within the Information Technology Services department and the College, including business application support, systems analysis, design and programming. Perform application development, maintenance, administration of security, information reporting, customer analysis and other duties related to program analysis and development. Must be able to meet with customers on their system needs and have the ability to translate and apply those needs within the ERP system. Work with a variety of databases and maintain them to produce a reliable, accurate and dependable information system for all functions of day-to-day operations. Support the College’s ERP structures through the development of standalone BI solutions as well as solutions that interface with the College ERP system. Administer and maintain specialized database systems obtained or created by the college to fill the needs of specific departments or areas. Control database access and process flow within the specialized systems, creating views, business rules, reports and data imports/exports. Create feasibility studies from many complex requests taking into consideration the overall influence on the college, limiting conflict and eliminating duplication. Gather all process requirements to determine the scope of diverse projects such as launching complex modules, creating individual processes and creating new databases. Research projects, including written documentation, dataflow diagrams, determining impact on current and new processes, equipment capacity and limitations, process time and desired customer results. Test written programs to ensure accuracy, reliability, efficiency, system performance, meets user specifications, integrates well with other systems on campus and the programs impact on other areas of the college. Construct each segment of the system using information derived from the analysis, adhere to technical and College standards and create a secure environment and system. Establish and maintain user accounts, integrating multi-level and record level security for multiple database types and users and coordinating security for new software installation with staff and outside vendors. Identify data corruption using file management diagnostics, correct corruption and other errors with manual intervention and/or with the application of diagnostic tools. Purge old data to maintain overall system efficiency as required. Coordinate installation of vendor software releases and revisions, evaluate new processes, research enhancements and modifications, insure seamless integration of all installations and communicate the impact of software enhancements to all affected areas prior to installing new modules and revisions. Modify all vendor software to accommodate the changing needs of the college due to process changes, technological advancements, irregularities and government required specifications. Create custom programs and communicate with vendor support staff requiring extensive knowledge of vendor systems and the capability to effectively articulate technical issues. Development of software using a combination of technical methods, including, data architecture, modeling, warehousing and ETL concepts; relational & multi-dimensional database design/schemas (i.e. Oracle – including Datatel Colleague R18 and related relational data marts and warehouses); Cognos architecture/administration, framework manager/transformer; Cognos report studio, analysis studio and dashboards; ERWIN, SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures and OLAP/MDX; programming (i.e. Unidata/UniBasic/UniQuery, C/C++, VB); Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Visio; Higher Education Applications (i.e. Datatel); and Web Technology/Services.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or a foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Information Systems or related field of study.

Seven years of experience in the job offered, or in a related computer programmer analyst and/or engineering position. Experience must include at least 4 years of professional experience working with Cognos programming including Cognos 8 BI (including Framework Manager) across multiple Oracle databases. Experience can be gained concurrently. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. Due to the heavy customer service aspect of this position, it is necessary to communicate effectively both in person and over the telephone with a large variety of people each day. The employee, on occasion, must be able to lift and carry, at the minimum, a 10 pound item.

Work Schedule

52 Weeks, 40-hours per week, Monday through Friday. May be required to work a variable schedule/varying hours to meet operational needs. Work hours will be determined by the Director of Enterprise Architecture.
