Job Title Postdoctoral Associate

Vacancy Number 218836EH

Department MOL. & HUMAN GEN./JASON HEANEY LAB - 99996177

Essential Functions and Duties:

A postdoctoral associate position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Jason Heaney in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at the Baylor College of Medicine. The main research goal of our laboratory is to understand genetic susceptibility to testicular and colorectal cancer. Specifically, our laboratory uses mouse models to identify and characterize developmental and inflammatory pathways that contribute to the initiation of testicular and intestinal cancer, respectively.

The individual will employ our laboratories existing and developing mouse and cell culture resources to characterize genes and developmental pathways that contribute to the transformation of embryonic germ cells into testicular germ cell tumor stem cells.
Specifically, the individual will assess the contributions of the gene cell mitotic-meiotic switch to testicular germ cell tumor initiation.

Interested applicants should be close to or completing a doctorate, have manuscripts at least submitted to peer-reviewed publications, and possess a strong background in molecular/cell biology, genetics, and cancer biology. Successful candidate will be expected to conceive, design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments, apply for individual research fellowships, and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Minimum Education Ph.D

Minimum Job Experience:

A strong background in molecular/cell biology, genetics, and cancer biology is required. Preferred laboratory experience includes mouse colony management, mouse tumor models, cell culture and transfection methods, standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, and western analysis, and cell biology techniques including immunohistochemistry. The candidate should also have experience with basic bacteriological methods including cloning, culturing, and plasmid preparation. Experience with confocal microscopy is desired but not required.
