Shift Type Job Title Head Swimming and Diving Coach Education Bachelor's Degree Location John Carroll University - University Heights, OH 44118 US (Primary) Career Level Experienced (Non-Manager) Category Athletics Date Needed By Job Type Full-time Travel Job Description The Head Swimming and Diving Coach is responsible for directing all phases of these programs including recruitment, team practices and competition and meet management. The head men’s and women’s swimming coach is a key person in representing JCU within the community region. Primary Responsibilities A. Design Season Plan for Swimming and Diving B. Design yearly schedule of competition C. Fund raising D. Home contest administration E. Work closely with Recreation Director in pool schedule, maintenance, and programming F. Recruiting Responsibilities: G. Demonstrate knowledge of the sports of swimming and an ability to apply that knowledge in coaching and developing student athletes. H. Provide competitive learning environment which facilitates the development of moral character, self discipline and potential I. Demonstrate an ability to promote educational growth for student athletes including leadership opportunities and training, conduct and safety, alcohol/drug educational programming, personal development and nutrition education J. Create an environment which places emphasis on good sportsmanship and respect for others K. Enhance and promote academic success of student athletes as well as identify students with academic deficiencies and work to support them along with their academic advisors L. Set team and individual goals each year and develop an action plan to support championship goals M. Demonstrate a commitment to the University Mission and to the Department of Athletics Learning Outcome and Goals. Possess the ability to communicate the mission of the University and the Athletic Department Philosophy and Goals to assistant coaches and students. N. Identify and facilitate community service experiences for every student athlete on an annual basis O. Promote and maintain positive public relations within the University and with the community. P. Attend Athletic Department meetings and represent JCU at Ohio Athletic Conference meetings. Q. Follow John Carroll Athletic Department, Ohio Athletic Conference and NCAA III guidelines and rules for swimming and diving R. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Job Requirements • Demonstrated ability to be successful in coaching swimming and diving in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the NCAA III level.• Ability to recruit student athletes who fit the profile of John Carroll University students.• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a positive, professional manner.• Ability to work with student athletes, parents and alumni to enhance and promote the JCU swimming and diving program.• Ability to manage all budgets.• Ability to provide oversight of assistant swimming and diving coaches and assistant golf coaches and work-study personnel to make those programs a successful experience for students at JCU.• Bachelor’s degree required.
