Position Description RAND is seeking an experienced PHP Web developer to support and expand existing survey software. The position requires working with a team of research staff to develop, implement and maintain complex web surveys. In this position you will: Maintain and expand our existing LAMP software products in a full SDLC Develop extensions to the software per clients’ varying needs Install and maintain open-source Social Network Analysis software on a server and develop code to extend the software’s capability Gather requirements, develop code, program, test, and maintain several web applications Qualifications Basic qualifications include: At least 3 years of experience in PHP/LAMP environment Strong MySQL ability, including analyzing, writing and optimizing complex MySQL queries Proven experience developing database-driven web applications Experience developing for open-source software Experience with version control systems such as SVN or GIT CS or other equivalent degree Other, nontechnical qualifications include: Excellent problem-solving and analytic skills Very strong written and verbal communication skills Proven project planning and organizational skills Ability to work as well on a team as independently, and accept responsibility for projects Ability to gain an understanding of research goals Our ideal candidate would also possess the following: Experience with EgoNet, EgoWeb or other data collection software for conducting Social Network Analysis Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Competence in Linux server operations, including scripting in one of the following languages: Bash, Perl or Python Ability to troubleshoot production systems Experience in a research environment Education Requirements BA/BS required, MS/MA preferred, preferably in Computer Science or highly related field such as Information Systems, Computer Engineering, etc. Experience 3-4 years minimum. Security Clearance May be required for some positions. Location Santa Monica
