RAND is seeking an experienced PHP Web developer to support and expand existing survey software. The position requires working with a team of research staff to develop, implement and maintain complex web surveys. In this position you will:
Maintain and expand our existing LAMP software products in a full SDLC
Develop extensions to the software per clients’ varying needs
Install and maintain open-source Social Network Analysis software on a server and develop code to extend the software’s capability
Gather requirements, develop code, program, test, and maintain several web applications
Basic qualifications include:
At least 3 years of experience in PHP/LAMP environment
Strong MySQL ability, including analyzing, writing and optimizing complex MySQL queries
Proven experience developing database-driven web applications
Experience developing for open-source software
Experience with version control systems such as SVN or GIT
CS or other equivalent degree
Other, nontechnical qualifications include:
Excellent problem-solving and analytic skills
Very strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven project planning and organizational skills
Ability to work as well on a team as independently, and accept responsibility for projects
Ability to gain an understanding of research goals
Our ideal candidate would also possess the following:
Experience with EgoNet, EgoWeb or other data collection software for conducting Social Network Analysis
Competence in Linux server operations, including scripting in one of the following languages: Bash, Perl or Python
Ability to troubleshoot production systems
Experience in a research environment
BA/BS required, MS/MA preferred, preferably in Computer Science or highly related field such as Information Systems, Computer Engineering, etc.
3-4 years minimum.
