Position Summary: (85%) Prepare hot food for student dining by (a) using a variety of industrial kitchen equipment; (b) preparing food items such as meats and vegetables for cooking by washing, peeling, and cutting to appropriate portions; (c) baking, roasting, stewing, frying, steam-cooking, or otherwise cooking food; (d) monitoring quality of finished product to ensure customer satisfaction; (e) assisting in placing prepared foods into pans and transporting them to hot line for purchase and consumption; and (f) participating in recipe research, experimentation, and making recommendations as time permits.
(15%) Maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary work area by (a) safely operating kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, fryers, slicers, choppers, steamers, broilers, griddles, blenders, and other hand/electric equipment; (b) regularly cleaning work surfaces, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, dishes and utensils, and other storage areas; (c) monitoring the freshness and storage life of all food products to preserve quality; and (d) complying with all health and safety regulations.

BYU-Idaho Food Services
This position prepares hot food for the university's dining facilities. The incumbent will use prep lists, prepare ingredients, and cook meats, vegetables, and sauces according to established recipes. This position may work alongside, train, and direct the work of student employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience: This position requires at least 1 year institutional cooking experience or equivalent formal training and experience. Culinary training is preferred. Applicants with less than the required training and experience may be considered for entry-level hire.
Demonstrated understanding of and proficiency in industrial food production, including the use of large-scale kitchen equipment. The successful applicant must be proficient in all cooking methods, maintain a clean and sanitary work area, and understand kitchen safety procedures. Must also be capable of standing for long periods of time and routine lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
Work Schedule: M-F 7:00 am - 4:30 pm, Saturdays as needed.
