Position Information Advertised Title Radiation Safety Officer Location Troy, NY Campus Search Number 20130252 Job Type Staff Full Time/Part Time Full-Time Department Environmental Health and Safety Department Payroll Type Semimonthly Job Summary for Advertising/Posting Job Summary The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), is a .5 FTE, and reports to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. The RSO is responsible for the oversight of Rensselaer's radiation safety programs. The RSO ensures that all activities involving radioactive materials are performed in accordance with approved policies and Federal and the State of New York regulatory requirements. The RSO will implement inspection, monitoring, and compliance protocols to ensure Rensselaer's working, living, learning and community environments are managed, inspected and audited in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements and protocols. The RSO is expected to implement a comprehensive Emergency Plan to include corrective actions; and Chair the Institute-wide Radiation and Nuclear Safety Committee. Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering or related discipline - Five (5) years of teaching or lab research experience to include at least three (3) years of professional experience in radiation safety * Applications must be received by Friday, February 7, 2014 by 5:00 p.m. Additional Required Qualifications - Must obtain Certification by the American Board of Health Physics, or the American Board of Radiology within a year of initial employment Preferred Qualifications - Master's Degree or Ph.D. in health physics, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline - Experience in radiation safety in an academic or research environment Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Additional Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Working knowledge of applicable Federal, state and local regulations - Demonstrated knowledge of lab safety practices - Demonstrated oral and written communication skills - Planning, organizing and effective time management skills - Ability to analyze and interpret financial and other data - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives - Ability to anticipate and solve problems Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Job Posted Date 02-03-2014 In order to receive full consideration you must apply by: 02-07-2014 Job Close Date 02-08-2014 New/Replacement Position Replacement Portfolio Division of Human Resources Working Conditions and Physical Demands Additional Information Instructions for Applying:
