Not Applicable Job Family NC: Non-Classified Appointment Length July 1 - June 30 (12 mo) Duties and Responsibilities General Summary: The Director of Residence Life provides leadership, strategic planning, guidance and direction for all aspects of a robust residence life program and community. Facilities include traditional and suite-style halls and campus apartments, serving over 1,100 students. The Director serves as a leader within the Student Development and Judicial areas and reports to the Vice President for Administrative and Fiscal Affairs. -Oversees recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of the professional and student Residence Life and Housing Office staff as well as their ongoing employee development and the annual performance evaluation process; monitors work performance for accuracy and completeness in accordance with department and University goals and objectives; ensures compliance of staff with established Residential Life policies and procedures; -Serves as primary advising resource for staff and students in dealing with specific residence hall problems; -Makes referrals of student residents to other campus resources, such as Student Counseling Services and Student Health; -Oversees the residence hall application and assignment process; -Coordinates and administers the overall Residential Life Program, including both student development and operations components, in assigned residence halls; -Serves as Judicial Hearing Officer for students referred for disciplinary concerns; enacts appropriate judicial sanctions and/or personal counseling to effectively resolve disciplinary problems; -Focuses on building and enhancing community and developmental/educational programming; -Serves as part of the team of professionals responding to student conduct issues and critical incidents. Adjudicates various violations of campus conduct policies, including but not limited to those incidents in residential areas; -Works with Resident Directors and Assistants to assess student needs and interests; in conjunction with the Manager of Retention and Coordinator for Student Activities and Events helps to plan, develop, promote and implement educational, cultural, social, recreational, and service programs that are supportive of the residence community; -Cultivates, coordinates, and assists in the development of student leadership and responsibility through programming and direct involvement with students. Sponsors or assists in sponsorship of programs in residence halls; -Manages operational functions for residences, such as key distribution and collection, damage assessment, reporting and billing, maintenance requests, and hall openings and closings. Oversees the process of room checks, reporting and following up on housekeeping, maintenance and move requests; -Oversees the room-assignment and changes process and resolves problems; -Assists in making recommendations for the purchase of furnishings and equipment, improvement of housekeeping services, and preventive maintenance and safety measures for the residence halls and apartments; -Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Public Safety, Physical Plant/Facilities, Student Counseling, Student Health Center, the institutional Title IX Coordinator, Student Recreation and Facilities and other Student Service and University offices, as appropriate and as needed; -Participates in the overall planning and management of the residence hall system and Housing Master Plan and provides input into the development of policies and procedures; -Oversees and ensures ongoing contact with student residents and Residence Life's presence and updates on the web and on social media; -Heads or participates on task forces and committees, as appropriate and as assigned; and, -Performs related tasks and assumes related responsibilities, as assigned or as necessary. An established record of excellent leadership and mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty, and strong written and oral communications skills, particularly with students and their parents, is required. Outstanding organizational and management skills are essential for success in this role.
