Position Summary Information



Dr. John Kauwe is seeking a Post-Doctoral fellow to join his Alzheimer’s disease research team at Brigham Young University (located in Provo, UT). The Postdoc will develop computational methods for the analysis of genomic sequence data and apply them to whole-genome and whole-exome sequence data in Alzheimer’s disease and related quantitative traits.

Successful candidates will hold a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related disciplines. Successful candidate will demonstrate computer programming skills in C/C++, Perl or Python and have experience in the analysis of genomic data. Experience in Linux and high performance computing is also required. Candidate needs to be familiar with bioinformatics programs, public genomics resources and databases, and statistical analysis methods (such as R). Candidates must be organized and efficient demonstrate a track record of high initiative. Candidates must also be skilled at troubleshooting, be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to balance and prioritize a variety of tasks.


Responsibilities of the Postdoc will include, but are not limited to:
• Designing and implementing new algorithms and computational methods
• Analyzing several types of genomic sequence data
• Integrating bioinformatics workflows and pipelines under high performance computing environments
• Publishing scientific work in peer-reviewed journals
• Providing bioinformatics support for collaborative projects
• Teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in these research efforts
