Southeast Missouri State University is seeking an Assistant to the President for Equity and Diversity Issues. Reporting directly to the President and a member of the executive staff, this senior administrator will serve as one of the President’s key advisors.
Southeast Missouri State University is a comprehensive regional state university with seven colleges and schools, more than 11,000 students, and a faculty and staff of more than 1,100. Southeast, a moderately selective institution, offers baccalaureate, masters and specialist degrees, and participates in joint doctoral programs with the University of Missouri. Its intercollegiate athletics program is classified NCAA Division I (FCS football) and the University is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Cape Girardeau, on the Mississippi River, is the hub of a thriving county with a population of approximately 75,000. Serving a region of more than 500,000 people, it is the largest center for retailing, medicine, manufacturing, communications, and entertainment between St. Louis and Memphis.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Providing pro-active, strategic, campus-wide leadership, direction, and coordination in the areas of equity and diversity issues
* Supervising and developing approaches designed to enhance the university community’s appreciation for cultural diversity, its climate of tolerance, respect for the rights of all persons, and its adherence to affirmative action and equal opportunity
* Working collaboratively with the Provost and Vice Presidents, maintains effective and equitable processes for resolution of workplace issues
* Recommending policies and procedures related to equity and affirmative action and managing the Affirmative Action Program
* Working with members of the faculty, staff and students to coordinate programs to assist the University in cultivating and retaining minority faculty, staff and students
* Building, maintaining and reporting work force analyses
* Maintaining confidential and sensitive information
* Providing both formal and informal ombudsman responsibilities
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree and significant successful human relations or affirmative action experience in an administrative leadership capacity
* A record demonstrating a collaborative leadership style and the ability to work successfully with numerous and varied campus or community constituencies
* Experience designing, leading, and teaching equity, diversity, and affirmative action programs
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
* Skills and experience in conducting a wide array of mediation and problem-solving services that ensure fairness to everyone
* Familiarity with the regulations associated with equal opportunity/affirmative action issues
* Successful experience in enabling the achievement of enhanced diversity at all levels of the organization |
