Shorter College awards tenure, promotions to faculty members

Shorter College has announced promotions for the following faculty members:

— Dr. Anthony Nichols, assistant professor of computer science to associate professor of computer science

Dr. Nichols received his doctoral degree in computer information systems from Nova Southeastern University. He received his master’s degree in information systems from Kennesaw State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Berry College, a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from Georgia Southern University and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Nichols was also granted tenure.

— Nancy Mount, instructor of business to assistant professor of business

Mount received a Master of Science degree in management from Faulkner University and a Bachelor of Science degree in management from Shorter College. She is currently pursing a doctoral degree in management from North Central University and will serve as chair of Shorter’s Department of Business Management in the fall.

— Dr. Fred Tarrant, assistant professor of music to associate professor of music

Dr. Tarrant received his doctoral degree in musicology from Indiana University. He earned a master’s degree in music history and literature and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano pedagogy from Baylor University.

Dr. Tarrant was also granted tenure.

— Brian Taylor, associate professor of art to professor of art

Taylor earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Memphis State University.

— Dr. Sherri Weiler, assistant professor of music to associate professor of music

Dr. Weiler received a doctoral degree in vocal performance/pedagogy emphasis from Florida State University and a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She also earned a Master of Education degree in secondary education and a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from Clemson University.

Dr. Weiler was also granted tenure.

— Dr. Carmen Butcher, associate professor of English to professor of English

Dr. Butcher received a doctoral degree in medieval studies and a master’s degree in English from the University of Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Shorter College. In addition, she was selected as a Rotary Graduate Scholar at the University of Heidelburg and as a Fulbright Scholar and visiting lecturer at the University of London.

Dr. Butcher was also granted tenure.
