Johnson C. Smith University hires consultant Katherine Loflin

Johnson C. Smith University has hired Katherine Loflin as lead consultant of the Soul of the Northwest Corridor initiative.
Loflin, who has a background in philanthropy and social capital campaigns, will direct the examination of community qualities attach residents to the area, how it is performing and how the attachment can spark economic growth.
The three-year, $2.371 million project is patterned after the John and James McKnight Foundation's Soul of the Community Project. The foundation and Gallup Poll will collaborate on the survey, which will be adapted to examine the Northwest Corridor.
"Soul of the Community is an innovative framework for thinking about communities that has really captured the attention of many across the country,” Loflin said. “I am honored by the appointment to serve as the senior research fellow and proud of Johnson C. Smith University's vision to become a pioneer in this developing area of community practice.”
Loflin, who earned masters and PhD degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, launched her own consulting company in 2007. She is familiar with Knight Foundation programs as director of its grant-making initiatives in Bradenton and Palm Beach County, Fla
