Jennifer Granholm's first foray out of public office will include teaching at the University of California-Berkele and co-writing a book with her husband.
Granholm and Dan Mulhern both plan to teach courses at Berkeley, where the former governor received a bachelor's degree in 1984, through the 2013 academic year.
An e-mail sent today by Mulhern said the couple will be moving to the Bay Area to be near Granholm's parents.
Their time will be divided between Michigan, Washington and California, and they plan to relocate to California in time for the fall semester at Berkeley.
Granholm, 51, will work with Berkeley think tanks on public policy, law, business and the environment and this spring will teach about state budgets, clean-energy jobs, economic diversification and leadership at the university's Goldman School of Public Policy. She will add a course this fall on state budgeting and governing in times of fiscal crisis.
