Sanjay Sharma to lead University of Vermont's business school

A new dean of the School of Business Administration has been appointed at the University of Vermont.
Sanjay Sharma, currently dean of the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, will assume the position July 1, UVM announced. He replaces Rocki-Lee Dewitt, who was named dean in 2002 and who remains a professor on the school's faculty. Professor Larry Shirland had served as interim dean over the last year.
His annual salary will be $320,000, which will be the second highest pay rate at UVM. President Dan Fogel's salary this year is $322,563, according to UVM's website.
Sharma has a background in academia and the private sector. He has served as professor of policy in the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, and began his academic career as associate professor and director of the executive MBA programs at St. Mary's University in Halifax.
He received a Ph.D. in management in 1996 from the University of Calgary and his MBA in 1976 from Panjab University in India. Sharma has also served in executive positions in various international corporations, including Chanrai International Plc. UK and Sanraj Group Ltd. in India.
