Ohio State names Jay Kasey VP for planning and administration

Ohio State University

May 24, 2011

The Ohio State University has tapped Jay D. Kasey, chief operating officer for The Ohio State University Health System, to become the university’s new senior vice president for administration and planning.

Kasey takes the position left vacant when Jeff Kaplan, the previous senior vice president for administration and planning, was named the university’s new chief fundraiser. That appointment filled the void left by the unexpected death of Senior Vice President of University Development Andrew A. Sorensen last month.

Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee says Kasey brings a unique set of talents and expertise to the position.

“Jay Kasey is a thoughtful and effective leader with exactly the right skills and experiences to lead the university’s new unified approach to facilities planning and project management,” said President E. Gordon Gee. “He will help Ohio State to become the national model for the physical integration of large, comprehensive universities.”

As chief operating officer for the OSU Health System, Kasey has been responsible for leadership of the operational elements of the health system’s facilities (University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, University Hospital East, OSU Harding Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as a network of community care sites). He also has led the $1.1 billion expansion of the medical center and integrated life sciences project.

Kasey’s new role combines and streamlines facilities and space planning responsibilities for the entire university, including the academic Medical Center. This new consolidation of duties will simplify efforts, providing a streamlined approach that will fully align areas across the university and enable even more effective in project planning and management. In addition, he will oversee the departments of Facilities Operations and Development, Physical Planning and Real Estate, Public Safety, Transportation and Parking, and Uniprint.

Kasey, who earned his bachelor’s degree at Wabash College and a master’s degree from Washington University, is currently enrolled in the Masters in Business Operations program at the university’s Fisher College of Business.
