Tim Hudson will serve as Texas Tech vice chancellor effective Aug. 1.
Hudson is a special assistant to the chancellor for international programs and initiatives at the University of Houston System.
In his new role, Hudson will coordinate and support distance education and online programs, areas of previous experience for the incoming vice chancellor.
From 2004 until 2010, he served as president of the University of Houston-Victoria. During his tenure, the university introduced several new degrees and double its enrollment, making the school a statewide leader in online programs.
Online education has become an increasingly popular option. Babson Survey Research Group estimated one fourth of all enrolled students took at least one online course in 2008, compared to only 12 percent in 2003. That percentage should rise in the future, and Tech is no exception.
