UMass law school names Michael Hillinger interim dean

The UMass School of Law has appointed an interim dean to replace Robert V. Ward Jr., who resigned last week amid controversy for using a university credit card for personal expenses.
Professor Michael G. Hillinger, the law school's associate dean since 1999, will fill the position until a search committee hires a new permanent dean.
UMass Dartmouth spokesman John Hoey said the search process is "under way," adding it was premature to say who will comprise the search committee or when a new dean will be appointed.
"We're very optimistic the search will attract some very interesting and high-quality candidates for the position," Hoey said.
Hillinger, who has served in law school administration since 1990, including as associate dean of the Southern New England School of Law, said in a statement he was "honored and humbled."
"I look forward to working closely with students, faculty and staff to build on the great work that has already been accomplished," Hillinger said.
