Eastern Michigan University has named Kim Schatzel as its new provost and vice president, pending approval by the Board of Regents. The appointment will be effective Jan. 3, 2012.
Schatzel's background includes extensive academic leadership and corporate business experience. She currently serves as dean of the College of Business at University of Michigan-Dearborn, a position she has held since 2008. Schatzel joined the institution in 2000 as assistant professor of marketing and subsequently held several leadership positions until being named dean.
"Dr. Schatzel has proved to be an outstanding dean who brings a strong voice to lead and advocate for the faculty and Division of Academic Affairs," said Susan Martin, president of Eastern Michigan University. "Her success in advancing academic excellence and in strategically building academic programs responsive to the needs of today's students and employers and the State of Michigan, make her ideally suited for Eastern Michigan University. She understands Southeast Michigan and cares about the future of public universities at this difficult economic time."
Schatzel's corporate experience includes more than 20 years of new venture and start-up experience. This includes serving as Founding President and COO, and later CEO of ICM/Krebsoge, North America's largest powdered metal components manufacturer - a multinational industrial firm employing more than 1,500 people on four continents.
