Eastern Oregon University President Bob Davies has paid $538 out-of-pocket for disallowed meals and travel expenses after a state audit.
The questionable expenses occurred between July 1, 2009, when Davies took Eastern's helm, and last July, said Tim Seidel, university spokesman.
The biggest -- $419 -- was for a car rental reimbursement put in by both Davies and EOU Athletic Director Rob Cashell. The double reimbursement was an accident and wasn't caught until the audit, Seidel said.
The questionable receipts came to light when an anonymous e-mailer suggested Davies had stolen from the university and the state of Oregon. Davies repaid the money in January.
Davies, in an e-mail to the university community Monday, said a new reimbursement process is in place.
