Less than two years after becoming president of Palm Beach Atlantic University, Lu Hardin resigned Friday.
University officials said Hardin cited "personal and family reasons" for his abrupt departure. But Robert Simpson, chairman of the PBAU board of trustees, said the resignation could be related to an investigation at the University of Central Arkansas, where Hardin resigned as president in 2008 before coming to PBAU.
"We don't know that right now," Simpson said. "There's going to be a lot of speculation, but we don't know the answer to that. He just seemed to be concerned about something in Arkansas, and he felt he needed to attend to it."
Hardin did not return calls seeking comment.
He resigned as president of Central Arkansas after a memo surfaced regarding a $300,000 bonus he received two years ahead of schedule.
The memo supporting the bonus was attributed to three university vice presidents, but Hardin later acknowledged that he wrote the memo.
