The University of Western Ontario and the UWOFA reached a tentative deal at around 3 a.m., ensuring classes will continue as regularly scheduled on Wednesday.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, and it remains to be seen what will come of the University’s insistence on ‘performance management’ techniques, which fueled much of the faculty association’s ire. What is sure is that students will not be caught in the crosshairs.
Western is also in negotiations with The University of Western Ontario Staff Association to avert another strike set for Thursday, November 4.
"Negotiation is never a simple matter, and I sincerely thank UWOFA and the University bargaining team for their dedication and professionalism throughout this process. I also want to thank all members of the Western community for their patience, understanding and support during this time,” said University President Amit Chakma.
“We look forward to completion of this agreement as a key element in enabling the University to continue to attract and retain the best faculty that will further advance Western's commitment to academic excellence.”
