Counseling Center - Mental Health Counselor
APPOINTMENT: A continuous half-time counselor position on the Macomb campus is available. This nine month contract will run mid August to early May each year. The successful candidate will be expected to begin as soon as possible.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work and post-degree experience as a mental health provider. Candidate should have or be able to secure a clinical license in the State of Illinois. Strong communication and basic computer skills are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong clinical skills and experience providing individual, couple, and group mental health counseling services within a college setting. Experience providing psycho-educational programming for a diverse student body. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the treatment of conditions common in a college setting (e.g. eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders), have a firm grasp of developmental issues facing students, and have experience meeting the needs of clients from diverse populations.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide individual, couple, and group mental health counseling services to a diverse student body addressing personal, academic and career concerns. Prepare and present psycho-educational programs. Provide crisis intervention, assessment, and consultation services. Maintain counseling records in accordance with legal and ethical standards, participate in committee work, attend meetings, and maintain professional credentials by attending conferences and workshops. This position reports to the Director of the University Counseling Center.
RANK & SALARY: Academic Support Professional as defined under Unit B of the bargaining unit of University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100. According to the 2007-2011 UPI Agreement, minimum salary for this 50% position is $1,696.00/month. Employees on nine month contracts do not accrue vacation days and individuals employed at less than full time are not eligible for educational benefits.
